Mill Creek Trail

Vail, CO

Mill Creek Trail, The classic “Mill Creek”, once a simple access road connecting Vail Ski Resort to neighboring trails, has undergone a dramatic transformation. Originally an old service road for hikers and riders to connect to neighboring trails, it now stands as a prime example of a trail that blends both history and modern design, offering a truly unique experience.

In collaboration with the National Forest Service and the Vail Valley Mountain Trail Alliance (VVMTA), MTF took on the monumental task of reimagining this trail’s alignment and purpose. The goal was clear: to craft a trail that embodied the spirit of classic backcountry singletrack, while also incorporating the smooth, flowy characteristics that today’s riders and hikers crave.

MTF walked a fine line between creating a machine-built trail that feels timeless and raw—almost as if it had been there for centuries—and introducing a modern flow, as landscapes allowed, that enhances sustainability and fun. The result is a trail that feels natural, but with a new-age edge
