At Staunton State Park, MTF construction completed the design and construction of the “Rusty Buckle” and the lower section of “North Elk” trails.
MTF was brought in by Contour Logic, who provided the mapping and flagged the routes to navigate through some of the park’s most challenging terrain and stunning overlooks. The result is a pair of trails that are truly a backcountry experience, offering a variety of surfaces for both hikers and bikers. From rocky, root-filled paths to smooth dirt trails, these routes are a perfect blend of technical challenge and natural beauty.
MTF is particularly proud of the rock work on these trails—not just within the trail tread itself, but also along the trail edges. Using on-site stone, MTF constructed retaining walls to help prevent erosion and ensure the trails remain durable and low-maintenance for years to come. These thoughtful design and construction elements make the trails as sustainable as they are scenic, allowing visitors to enjoy Staunton State Park’s remarkable landscape in all its rugged glory.
