Importance of Proper Trail Mapping & Signage

McGill Trail Fabrication (MTF) recognizes the importance of building trails to spec and adhering to the standardized trail difficulty rating system.  Trail mapping and signage play an important role in supporting this function and ultimately help translate what we as track builders want to make aware to riders before they jump on a trail.

Howler Bike Trail Map - McGill Trails

Simply put, trail mapping offers a visual guide that not only informs riders of their location but also prepares them for the upcoming trail conditions. Overall, trail signposts, symbols, and markers all help enhance rider experience, safety, and overall enjoyment.  Properly mapped trails enable riders to assess the difficulty level and choose routes that align with their skill sets and preferences keeping safety paramount.

Some Helpful Trail Tips From McGill

As you dive into mountain biking, here are some important MTF tips.  One is to recognize the distinction between one's riding skills and the limitations of their bike. To mitigate the risk of falls and injuries, have your bike tested by the staff at a trail facility or a local bike shop before you ride.

Another tip when it comes to your trail system, is to pay close attention, even study, the trail signs, and maps of the area you're riding in.  We recommend navigating your trails a couple of times cautiously, without a lot of effort, before embracing a more hells bells approach for your first descent.  Knowing a trails nuances, its technicalities, and the challenges presented before you bolt down a mountain is a wise idea.

Whether you need help inspecting or marking an existing trail system or you're wanting to create a brand new trail system for riders to enjoy, it's important to work with a team that knows how to classify trails and one that can help you map as you go.
